Amenities at Deep Creek Lake

The Deep Creek Lake area is a four-season resort area. The lake (with 65 miles of lakeshore) is ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and water skiing. Summer temperatures are very mild, typically 10 to 15 degrees lower than in the Washington D.C./Baltimore areas. There are many trails in the area where you go hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The Wisp Resort has a highly rated golfing course. Autumn colors rival those of New England and an average annual snowfall of 100 inches (180 inches in 1996) makes the area also a winter wonderland. There are five state parks within 5-20 minutes from the center part Deep Creek Lake where one can go cross-country skiing (New Germany, Herrington Manor, Deep Creek Lake, Blackwater Falls, Savage River) and some areas snowmobiling. And there are 23 slopes for downhill skiing at the Wisp. Ski races and snowmobile tours are held through January and February.
